Last year, the Washington State Legislature officially recognized March 31st as Cesar Chavez Day. A champion of humane working conditions and civil rights, Cesar Chavez provides an opportunity for us to learn about and educate others about our food system and how we are connected to the workers who grow and harvest our produce. Catholic Housing Services invites you to utilize this opportunity at your school by hosting or participating in events that highlight his legacy and how the “fair food” movement connects with Catholic Social Teaching- the Dignity of Work. Some ideas for events include: a film screening, special lunch highlighting where food comes from, prayer service for farmworkers, etc.
Please contact Gloria Burton at firstname.lastname@example.org for more information or to let us know how your students are commemorating Cesar Chavez Day. Please let me know upon receipt.
