46th Superintendent’s High School Art Show: The artwork has arrived at OSPI! The winning pieces from the ESD regional art shows are now on display at OSPI through May 30. There will be an awards ceremony and reception on Friday, May 17, from 1–3 p.m. at OSPI. Visual Arts Matter: This newly released resource explores how visual arts support students’ academic success both within and outside of school settings by cultivating learning skills, boosting academic achievement and enhancing the educational experience of traditionally underserved students. April is Jazz Appreciation Month: The National Association for Music Education (NAfME) has partnered with Jazz at Lincoln Center to bring resources and ideas for bringing jazz into schools. The Arts and Title IV Funding: The Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) contains specific language that allows school districts to utilize Student Support and Academic Enrichment Grants (Title IV, Part A) for programs and activities that support student access to a well-rounded education. School districts may use Title IV, Part A funds to implement or expand programs and activities that use the arts as tools to support student success through the promotion of constructive student engagement, problem solving, and conflict resolution. Western Governors High School Art Competition: The Western Governors’ Association is proud to announce, “Celebrate the West,” a regional art competition that challenges high school students to create works inspired by their state. The deadline for submissions is April 28, 2019. Evergreen Orff Chapter Workshop: Evergreen Orff Chapter workshops are held in the Puget Sound area. Arts Opportunities for Students and Teachers at Centrum: Centrum, located in Port Townsend and in partnership with OSPI, gathers young artists, scientists and teachers together. Artists working in the fields of visual art, writing, theater, movement, and music will provide young artists opportunities to learn new ways of thinking, seeing, and being. Opportunities in 2019 include:

2019 NAfME Electronic Music Composition Competition: The NAfME Electronic Music Composition Competition recognizes outstanding compositions and highlights the effectiveness of music technology in the school curriculum. Entries will be judged based on their aesthetic quality, use of electronic media, and the power of the composition. Application deadline is April 19. Take the CTE “Get Real” Video Challenge: The Workforce Board’s video contest encourages Washington CTE middle and high school students to shoot their own videos to promote Career and Technical Education. Art How 2’s 2019: Designing Collaborative Creative Learning Experiences: In this workshop participants will learn how to facilitate the design thinking process by using their own curriculum to frame their lessons, make connections to other content areas, and acquire techniques for guiding students toward developing the necessary mindset and skills to thrive in today’s world. Bringing Theatre into the Classroom: Bringing Theatre into the Classroom or “BTiC” is an engaging, fun, five-day intensive professional development opportunity for K-12 teachers that will equip you with the tools and skills to integrate drama into your curriculum. Summer Dance Institute for Teachers (SDIT): Join Anne Green Gilbert and colleagues as they share the philosophy of brain-compatible teaching and the power of the BrainDance. Participants will experience lessons based on Anne Green Gilbert’s patently successful five-part conceptual lesson plan and the brain-compatible principles that underpin it. Seattle Theatre Group’s (STG) Songwriters Lab:  STG’s Songwriters Lab is open to students ages 14-19, all levels of songwriting experience & genres/styles of music welcome. Seattle Theatre Group’s (STG) – Disney Musicals in Schools: STG’s Disney Musicals in Schools is a free musical theatre arts program for Title I elementary schools in Washington. Selected schools will receive free licensing and show kit materials to the Disney KIDS show of their choice including STG Teaching Artists to support their rehearsal process.
