Barbara Connor, Director of Faith Formation and Interim Pastoral Associate at Immaculate Conception Parish in Seattle, and member of the Black Catholic Advisory Circle, a committee working with the Office of Multicultural Communities at the Archdiocese of Seattle shared, “Throughout November, Black Catholics in archdioceses across the United States will be celebrating, Black Catholic History Month. One of the many purposes is to recognize the accomplishments of African Americans who contributed so greatly to the Catholic Church. We are also reminded of the unique challenges they faced as they worked for human justice and equality for African Americans as well as the poor and indigenous people of America.  Unfortunately, many people in Catholic parishes and students in Catholic schools are unaware of these individuals. Some Catholic schools in our nation recognize this month and prepare celebrations of various kinds. I would like to offer an opportunity for students in the Archdiocese of Seattle to participate in a celebration that is educational and inspiring, not only for all students but particularly those of African descent.”
