Dealing with Trauma & Related Issues on Home Visits
This session, led by SVdP Case Melissa Morales-Warming, is designed to assist Vincentians in detecting and dealing with trauma issues with neighbors they are seeing on home visits. Melissa brings considerable experience to SVdP and for this session. Most recently, Melissa was the Trauma-Informed Care Support Staff at Community Psychiatric Center, an outpatient community mental health center.
Time: 9 a.m. – 10:30 a.m.
Immigration Issues and Topics for Vincentians
We are pleased to offer this important workshop for all Vincentians — immigration.
Jorge L. Barón, Executive Director of the Northwest Immigration Rights Project (NWIRP), and his team will present a workshop on the relevant issues and topics we are facing on immigration. The NWIRP promotes justice by defending and advancing the rights of immigrants through direct legal services, systemic advocacy, and community education.
Time: 10:30 a.m. to 12 Noon
Legal Issues Facing Our Low Income & Homeless Neighbors
We are welcoming back the Northwest Justice Project (NJP) for another workshop. This was one of the most successful VFG workshops we have ever held. We had two sessions with NJP, each jampacked with interested Vincentians. Lawyers will address all kinds of legal issues our neighbors encounter, including landlord-tenant matters, social security, health care legal issues, consumer law and much more.
Time: 10:30 a.m. – 12 Noon
Reflective Listening: An Important and Essential Tool in Home Visits
Listening clearly leads to a more beneficial encounter for our neighbors. We hosted a Reflective Listening Workshop at the spring 2018 VFG and it was well attended a received numerous positive reviews. As a result, we have designed another session with new concepts and ideas for Vincentians to utilize on home visits.
Time: 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Home Visit Orientation
Home Visit Orientation is an opportunity to learn more about both the practical and interactive elements of the home visit. Participants will leave with more confidence and competence in living out this central focus of our ministry. New members are required to attend during their first year of service and experienced Vincentians are invited to enhance their skills. The Home Visit Orientation session will run from 9:00 am to 12:30 pm at the VFG at Bishop Blanchet.
