As you recall, the state of Washington has a new regulation requiring that effective January 1, 2023, all new job postings will need to contain information related to salary and benefits.
Since the new law does not dictate the methodology used for posting the salary, any of the three methods outlined below may be utilized. They are listed from broadest to narrowest in approach. Method 1 listed below is the recommended approach to attract the widest range of applicants and also prevent any internal issues.
Schools can use the following methods:
- Use the minimum and maximum for the range/grade. If no range exists, use the budgeted amount as a midpoint and establish a range that is 25% above and below. Example: Budget is $60,000. Range: $45,000 to $75,000
- Use the 25th and 75th percentiles for the range or grade. If no range exists, use the budgeted amount or mid-point, and establish a range that is 15% above and below. Example: Budget is $60,000. Range: $51,000 to $69,000
- Use the midpoint or budgeted amount.
The following language must be inserted at the end of every job posting:
Salary: (use a methodology above…again, method #1 is recommended)
($12,345 – $98,765) Any offered salary is determined based on internal equity, internal salary ranges, market data, applicant’s skills and prior relevant experience, degrees, and certifications.
Benefits: A comprehensive package of benefits is offered including two medical plan options, dental, vision, life, accidental death and disability, long term disability, pension, 403(b), HSA, FSA, and generous sick leave, vacation, and holidays.
