Pope Francis Calls for a Synodal Journey
Archbishop Etienne writes….”Pope Francis has called us as a Church to a “synodal journey.” Catholics across the world will be coming together in a universal process of listening in preparation for the 2023 Synod of Bishops in Rome. With all that is going on in our archdiocese, I see the timing of all of this as providential. The synodal process is offering us a tool with which we can better enact the central focuses of our Pastoral Plan: the encounter with Jesus Christ and each other, the accompaniment of one another on the journey of discipleship, and the living of our faith in the
love and joy of the Gospel.
In reflecting on this call to synodality, I am reminded of what God tells us through Jeremiah: If we call to God, he will respond with great things—things far “beyond the reach of our knowledge” (Jeremiah 33:3). My hope is that through this process of listening, we will be better suited as an archdiocese to serve our communities, and I will be better suited as your archbishop to support you in your service of Christ. I thank you again, my brothers, for your help in facilitating and listening towhat the Holy Spirit has to say to us as Church today.”
Archbishop Etienne invites all the faithful to join in this Synodal Journey starting October 17th at 5:30pm, St. James Cathedral, Seattle
