New Teachers of Religion Workshop: August 16th from 9am-3pm at Seattle University
We are grateful for our partnership with Seattle University in hosting and coordinating this workshop for our new teachers of religion! This workshop is designed to support PK-12 religion/theology teachers within their first three years of teaching in the Archdiocese of Seattle. The overall goal of this workshop is to support the development of our new religion teachers through a focus on pedagogy and by building communities of practice throughout the archdiocese.
The workshop agenda includes an orientation to essential resources, professional development in effective pedagogy for teaching religion, and breakout groups in grade-level bands to apply the learning and form connections with teachers of the same grade levels.
- Orientation: Introduce archdiocesan resources and programs for the teaching of religion (including the archdiocesan religion standards, curriculum mapping, catechetical certification, ACRE, MDI, etc.).
- Pedagogical Practices for Effective Teaching in the Religion Classroom: Explore teaching methods that effectively engage our students in learning about, experiencing, and growing in the Catholic faith. Emphasis will be placed on the role of teacher creativity in building engaging lessons that support the standards while addressing the specific contexts of your classrooms.
- Breakout Groups: Collaborate in grade levels to design activities that apply the pedagogy learned throughout the day. Teachers will work alongside colleagues from other schools of their same grade levels to design content that can be utilized in their classrooms.
Clock Hours Available.
