Seattle Prep’s 7th annual Math Games is complete! We ESCAPED!
Special thank you to Brian Meza and the leadership of Seattle Prep for hosting this amazing virtual experience for out 8th graders!!
Student teams Zoomed their way through a creative scavenger hunt, followed by a timed Escape Room.
Catholic schools represented in force, with 155 8th graders from 22 different schools – nothing was going to stop this collection of mathematicians! It was a wonderful way to celebrate community, connect with each other, & flex our math muscle. The following schools brought so much positive energy to this amazing math celebration:
Seattle Nativity | St. Louise |
Our Lady of Fatima | St. Anne |
St. Joseph | St. Alphonsus |
Sacred Heart | St. Luke |
ASB | Our Lady of the Lake |
Holy Rosary West Seattle | Villa |
St. Mary Magdalene | St. Madeline Sophie |
St Matthew | Holy Rosary Edmonds |
St. John | St. Patrick (Tacoma) |
St. Brendan | Our Lady of Lourdes (Vancouver) |
St. Catherine | St. Frances Cabrini (Lakewood) |
Notable scavenger hunt items found:
Acute angle: kitchen tongs, stapler, scissors, a Seahawks pennant
A number greater than one million: a phone number, a debit card number, numbers on the keyboard
Something in the shape of a cylinder: Chlorox Wipes box, a burrito
A percent: Chlorox “kills 99.99% of germs”, your phone battery, 70% alcohol in hand sanitizer
A pattern: notebook lined paper, a Rubik’s cube.
Student feedback examples:
-We worked together as a team and problem solved a lot! A great way to bond with friends and work hard!!
-We all got along well and I hadn’t seen one of my teammates in a long time so it was nice to see them and work together on this. We also had tons of fun and math games was very different from what I expected.
-We really worked together as a team. We would collaborate together to get the right answer and we would discuss all the possibilities. More than once we would get the answer wrong but we would discuss as a team and try the other possibilities!
Special shout-outs to our award winners:
Creativity: Holy Rosary West Seattle (Team 2)
Spirit: St. Frances Cabrini
Scavenger Hunt: Villa (Team 4)
