Each week I will send out an Early Learning Update email.  These are meant to be quick updates on any relevant items for the week including resources, Professional Development, new health department info and more.

June Professional Development Opportunities now listed
New Professional Development opportunities for June are now listed on the Early Learning Landing page under the Professional Development “Upcoming Training” tile. Please click on the link below to see all the opportunities.  For Licensed Programs …  There is one month to go to make sure that all licensed staff will achieve 10 STARS hours for the fiscal year between July 1^st 2020- June 30^th, 2021.  Key Note:  When staff are logged into their MERIT account and are under the “My Record” and “Professional Record” Tab they can scroll down to “State Approved Training History”; then look under “Annual Continuing Education Training”.  In that section there are two small drop downs “Training Year” and “Fiscal Year”  …  please make sure you select 2021 for “Fiscal Year” and leave “Training Year” Blank.  If you do this the system will accumulate all the training hours completed from July 1^st, 2020 to June 30^th, 2021.  Please let me know if you have any questions on this and I am more than happy to hop on a zoom call and share my screen to show you!  If you or your staff still need hours these June PD opportunities are a great place to start!

May Early Learning Roundtable Recording: Catholic Identity in the Classroom
The May Early Learning Roundtable on Thursday, May 20^th focused on how you bring Catholic Identity into your classrooms.  This was a great discussion to learn how others are keeping our Catholic Faith Centered Learning environments present throughout the day in our programs. Licensed ONLY: Notice to NOT pay Child Care Licensing Fees Effective July 1^st, 2021
DCYF sent a letter this week to all Licensed providers with the alert that you do NOT need to pay child care licensing fees between July 1, 2021, and June 30, 2023. Inslee recently signed substitute senate bill 5151 (SSB 5151). This bill directs the Washington State Department of Children, Youth, and Families (DCYF) not to charge licensing fees to child care providers until at least July 1, 2023.

DCYF is aware that some invoices due after July 1, 2021, have already been issued and sent to licensed providers. You may disregard such an invoice pursuant to SSB 5151 and this notice. Please notify your DCYF licensor if you have already paid an invoice due on or after July 1, 2021. DCYF will work with you to obtain a refund.
