Every Conversation Can be a Math Conversation
While children are at play they frequently say or do something mathematical. Don’t let these mathematical moments slip by! This session will focus on engaging student ideas about mathematics. We will explore responding to and engaging children while they are at play, as well as share several prompts that can be used anywhere to get a math conversation started. Outcomes: Participants will understand the significant connection between math and play. Participants will consider how to engage students in conversations about math ideas without disrupting the flow and freedom of play. Participants will encounter prompts to initiate math conversations and draw attention to quantity, shape, position, and measures across spaces and situations. Participants will locate free resources to share with parents to promote mathematical conversations in the family setting.
