Early Learning Professional Development: Dual Language Learners

Dual Language Learners

This training focuses on dual language learners in early childhood education settings. We will review basic language development of all children but address the differences that come when a child lives in a bilingual/multilingual home. We will integrate these learning needs/differences for DLL in with other language supports that typically exist in early education settings - specifically looking at language acquisition stages for both native English speakers and DL speakers. The training will include information about how to support the cultural aspects that are often honored by maintaining home languages in educational settings. Additionally, this training will help teachers prepare their environments (visual/labeling), share language rich experiences for all children, and provide solid supports for multi-lingual children/families.
