    • O’Dea High School’s 5th annual Innovative School Transformation Conference is a real-world professional development experience for educators, principals, IT staff, and counselors seeking a holistic approach to school transformation. It showcases how interrelated initiatives in social and emotional development, digital classroom transformation, and ongoing professional development, coaching, and mentoring come together to transform the teaching and learning experience in schools.
    • IST Conference Sessions 1 and 2 will take place remotely on Microsoft Teams on February 11th. The remote conference is free and Washington State STEM Clock Hours will be available for those who attend.   • Instructional Practice in Humanities: Resources to Teach about the Holocaust
    • Presenter: Paul RegelbruggeHolocaust Director of Education
      Participants will learn the impact of quality Holocaust education on students’ attitudes towards diversity, tolerance and upstander behavior in the face of hate and intolerance, and on their critical thinking skills. Participants will also learn about the Washington State-required (RCW 28a.300.115) “Best Practices” for teaching the lessons of the Holocaust, and how the Holocaust Center for Humanity and its many resources help prepare them, regardless of prior knowledge and teaching experience, to create such positive, necessary student learning outcomes. Participants will further observe the presentation of, and engage with a member of the Holocaust Center’s Speakers Bureau, participate in a key foundational lesson and have the opportunity for discussion and questions.

  • Secrets to Successful STEM Challenges
    • In this hands-on PD, presenter Kerry Tracy will share foundations of successful STEM Challenges. We’ll discuss facilitation do’s & don’ts, how to differentiate and make cross-curricular connections to save time, as well as troubleshooting common obstacles in the classroom.

  • Spirituality for Educators
    • Presenter: Matt Barmore  – Seattle Preparatory School
    • Looking at spirituality through the lens of our role as educators.  Will involve presentation, discussion, and prayer practice experiences.

  • Budget and Finance for Principals and School Leaders
    • Presenter: John Sullivan, Assistant Superintendent of Finance, Office for Catholic Schools
    • The presentation will cover (1) building relationships that support strong Finance and Budgeting processes, (2) what to expect from regular, efficient School Financial Reporting, (3) how to build and use an effective School Financial Budget and (4) the importance of Cash to School Finance.  This session is intended to augment other training participants have received to be a School Principal.

  • Diversified Learners Committee: Serving Students with Neurodiversities
    • Presenter: Sandra Barton Smith, Assistant Superintendent – Mission and Catholic Identity, Office for Catholic Schools, and members of the Diversified Learners Committee
    • Strategies for ensuring our students with neurodiversities are being met in all classrooms.
    • Using selected videos from the Mustard Seed Conference, Loyola University Chicago, members of the Diversified Learners Committee will facilitate discussions to better serve our students with neurodiversitites.

We will explore techniques to support core literacy skills as well as discuss strategies and engaging activities you can use in your classroom today!

  • New Teachers Mid-Year Support: An interactive Session with Office for Catholic Schools Leadership
    • Presenters: Pam Schwartz and Kelly Surapaneni
    • An interactive session on teaching strategies, prayer, educator self-care and more.

  • Gonzaga University presents: Research on Special Needs and Utilizing Public Schools for Support
    • Presenter: Dr. Mark Derby and Dr. Dennis Sisco-Taylor, School Psychology
    • The Balancing Act Between Private and Public Education: When is Seeking Services for Special Education in the Public School Warranted?
    • The Individual with Disabilities Education Improvement Act (IDEIA, 2004) provides legislative guidance to public schools in the provision of Free and Appropriate Public Education to students with a range of educational deficits. The IDEIA mandates that all students who reside in a public school district boundary are entitled to special education services.  Although private schools are not required to adhere to the IDEIA, they are often asked to accommodate the needs of these students. Our presentation is to provide a greater understanding of the disability categories dictated by the IDEIA and the services often provided based on each disability category.

  • 1:00 – 3:00 pm – Leveraging Assessments for Effective Classrooms
    • Effective Use of Assessments – Kim Marshall, editor of the Marshall Memo, will explore how teachers and teacher teams can use tests, quizzes, students’ writing, and projects to level the playing field for all students, fix learning problems in real time, and keep everyone’s focus on results.

  • 12:30 – 2:00 pm:  Marketing Catholicity in Today’s World
    • Presenters: Kristin Moore & Distinguished Panel of Guests
    • How do we market who we are as Catholic Schools effectively and authentically?  It is challenging in today’s world to stand tall and message in such a way to attract others to our mission. First, we will cover the basics: segmenting your audience, communicating in ways that resonate and spread, and understanding the shifts from old marketing (advertising & interruption) to the world we live in today which demands trust and endorsement. We will then dive into specific messaging that communicates our Catholic faith in a modern and attractive way. This will be a very interactive session…please invite your teams!
