Black Theology and the Future of the Black American Community – 9/5 via Zoom

Proclamation & Practice Speaker Series: Dr. Dwight Hopkins – Black Theology and the Future of the Black American Community

(Sunday, Sept. 5 – 10:30 am- 12:00 noon/4:30pm – 6:00 pm PDT)

Sacred Heart, Saratoga, CA invites you to a Zoom presentation by Dr. Dwight Hopkins about how black theology can speak to the black experience in the U.S. today and going forward.

Genesis teaches us that all people are made in the image of God, but as issues of racial justice in the news show us, we struggle as humans to treat people as such.  Dr. Dwight Hopkins (U. of Chicago) will take listeners through such issues as black ownership of wealth and what the black community wants for its children.  He will also explore our baptismal call to the prophetic witness to justice and to serving the “least of these” among us.

There will be two presentations of the same talk:  10:30 a.m.-12:00 noon and 4:30-6:00 p.m. PDT.  Spanish interpretation will be provided at the 4:30 session.  The Zoom presentation is free, but registration is required.  Registration and videos of past speakers can be found at parish.sacredheartsaratoga.org/faith-formation-speaker-series/.
